Namesake

Short version
Namesake has no account and no sign-in. All TÜİK data ships inside the app and every search runs on your device. **The names you search and save are never sent anywhere** — not to the ad network either.
The app is free and shows Google AdMob ads. Ads are served by Google's library, which may use information such as your device's advertising ID (see section 6).
One more exception: if the name you search is not in the bundled list, an "Ask TÜİK" button appears. Only if you tap it, the name you typed is sent to TÜİK's server.
1. Data we collect
None. As the developer we receive, store or see no data about you. The app does not ask for your name, email, phone or any account; it does not access your location, contacts, photos or files; it uses no analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tool of its own; and your searches never leave your device.
What Google collects for ads is described in section 6.
2. Stored on your device
Only what you create, and only locally: your saved shortlist of names, and the last 8 names you looked at. The recent list keeps **the name that was found, not the text you typed** — a half-finished word is never stored; you can wipe it with Clear on the search screen. Even light/dark mode is read from your device settings rather than saved by the app. These lists are never uploaded to us, to the ad network or to anyone else.
(If you are asked for ad consent in the EU/UK, Google's consent library remembers your answer on the device; see section 6.)
3. Network use
The data is offline; the network is used for two things:
- Ads. The Google AdMob library requests ads from Google's servers (section 6).
- The "Ask TÜİK" button. If a searched name is missing from the bundled data and you tap it, the app sends one query to the TÜİK Çocuk portal (
tuikcocuk.tuik.gov.tr).
The only thing about you in an "Ask TÜİK" request is the name you typed. A few fixed fields travel with it because the portal rejects the request without them (the gender option, plus a constant date of birth, height, weight and province code). Those constants are hard-coded in the app, are never taken from you and say nothing about you. No identity, location, device ID or email is sent. The answer is displayed and nothing is stored on any server by us. TÜİK's own server logs are outside our control; see TÜİK's site for their practices.
4. Children
The app is not directed at children; it is for a general audience. No age question, no account. Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (PG).
5. Source of the data
Figures are compiled from open data published by the Turkish Statistical
Institute (TÜİK): the Population Statistics Portal (nip.tuik.gov.tr) and
TÜİK Çocuk (tuikcocuk.tuik.gov.tr), used with attribution. Namesake is not
an official TÜİK application and is not affiliated with TÜİK.
6. Ads (Google AdMob)
The app shows two kinds of ads: a banner at the bottom and **at most one full-screen ad per session** (only after you have looked at several names, when you go back to the list). There are no ads on the name page itself.
Ads are served by Google's AdMob library. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- the device's advertising ID (AAID on Android),
- IP address and the approximate location derived from it,
- device and app information (model, operating system, language),
- ad impression and click information.
The names you search or save are not part of this. How Google uses this data: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
On iOS the app does not ask for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency), so the advertising identifier (IDFA) is not read and is not used to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Your choices:
- On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings > Google > Ads.
- In the EU, EEA and UK the app shows Google's consent form on first launch; you can change your answer with the Privacy options button on the app's Data and source screen.
There are no in-app purchases.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the date above is updated; significant changes are also noted inside the app.
